THE CHAPPIES CHALLENGE 2024 – postponed due to a kuk weather forecast – again

🔹 Briefing : 7:45 **
🔹 Start: 1 start is 8 am for A batch. Each batch will start 2 min later **
🔹 Each batch to line up in rows behind the batch in front.
🔹 Race numbers will be provided at reg for those that do not have race numbers from The Clifton Challenge event
🔹 Parking is the beach parking area on the Chappies side of Hout Bay beach
🔹 There will be a large number of racing yachts in Hout bay so please keep a look out and keep clear
🔹 *NB NB NB* – have a great paddle and a ton of fun
The Hout Bay is a great place to paddle, along the Chapmans Peak cliffs and under the soaring Sentinel wall.
The race has 2 course options.
Long Course
The exact course will be based upon weather conditions and will be described in detail at race briefing. The distance will be approximately 18km. The start and the finish will be on the beach in front of the Sentinel Alliance building.
Short Course
The exact course will be based upon weather conditions and will be described in detail at race briefing. The distance will be approximately 8km. The start and the finish will be on the beach in front of the Sentinel Alliance building.
**Please note the earlier than usual start. This is to as much as possible avoid clashing with a yacht race taking place in the bay.
HOW TO ENTER
The Freedom Paddlers Club is hosting the race for CSA paddlers. Please enter though CSA on the Canoeing South Africa website. Use the red button below to click through to the CSA entry portal.
The Hout Bay Life Saving Club is hosting an event for the Lifesavers with the assistance of the Freedom Paddlers Club. Please enter using the black button below and pay on the day with cash or snapscan.
There will be no entries on the day, only pre-entries.
Entries close 12pm 2nd March 2024.
CSA Paddlers

CSA registered paddlers to enter and pay online. As a CSA registered paddler you will not be able to enter and pay on the day as per CSA rules. Pre entries only.
Life Savers
Life Savers to enter online and pay for their entry at registration on the day via cash or Snap Scan. There will NOT be facilities for card payments. On the day entries will NOT allowed, pre entry only.

Distance: 18 km Long Course open to Surf Ski only (due to time limitations we sadly cannot accomodate SUP and prone paddlers for the long course)
8 km Short Surf Ski – Sup, Prone/Malibu board Lap Race.
Requirements: PFD – Leash – Cellphone with SafeTrtx required. Prone / Malibu paddlers do not require a PFD.
Entrants must be CSA registered & “surfski” level proficiency or be SA Lifesaving registered with a JLA or above for the lifesaving disciplines.
